Review of LG UltraWide 34WN80C: Curved Monitor for Enjoying Multimedia
As previously informed, Droidlime has reviewed two monitors from LG, namely the UltraFine Display Ergo 32UN880 and the LG UltraGear 27GN950. The first monitor to mention for creative content workers. Meanwhile, the LG UltraGear 27GN950 is aimed at gamers.
Well! Droidlime is also the arrival of another LG monitor that is no less interesting. The monitor is included in the multimedia line and the type is the LG UltraWide 34WN80C. Yes! The monitor size is 34 inches Super-Wide 21: 9, and it is suitable for enjoying multimedia content.
Got a cool “curved” design
The LG UltraWide 34WN80C monitor comes with a curvature 1800R. If you look at it from a distance of 1.5 meters, you still feel relieved. It is as if the monitor user is surrounded by a big screen. The design is also interesting because it has adopted a bezel-less design.
However, because the size itself touches 34 inches, the bezel size is automatically slightly thicker than the monitor bezel 30 inches and below on the market today. Approximately, when Droidlime measured it about 9mm. This means that the LG UltraWide 34WN80C still has a good screen design.
Then, what about the design of the back of the monitor? If you pay attention, LG does use the same design language between its monitor lines. First, the LG UltraWide 34WN80C also uses the same Quick Release button mechanism, which attaches the monitor to a neck or leg support.
Another thing is the embedded I / O port placement. Yes! The I / O port is made open. It’s just that it’s too wide, so if you want to plug in the cable the user has to stand behind the monitor. The ports provided are 2 HDMI 2.0, 1 DisplayPort 1.4, 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB C, and an audio jack because there are no built-in speakers.
When Droidlime tested this monitor, the USB C port was the favorite and the most frequently used. Because, the port can simultaneously recharge the laptop battery. Of course, the laptop has USB C charger support up to 60W. So it is very practical, you can use one cable for the display as well as recharge the laptop battery.
Although the LG UltraWide 34WN80C cannot swivel, at least this monitor can still be adjusted in height and also the screen can be tilted or vice versa. The stand is curved to match the screen. However, make sure the table you are using is large enough because the leg span is very wide.
Hi-end IPS display with WQHD resolution
Have a curved design, then what about the screen panel used? LG developed the LG UltraWide 34WN80C with an AH-IPS panel, this is a more hi-end IPS panel. The depth is 10-bit color, but when checked in Windows it says 12-bit.
The LG UltraWide 34WN80C also has an sRGB color gamut at 99%. Where when used, this monitor is capable of producing consistent, vibrant, and accurate colors for photo or video editing processes. For its main function, which is playing movies, the LG UltraWide 34WN80C supports HDR10.
Unfortunately, when it comes to watching Netflix, the HDR is still low because the brightness is only 300 nits. However, Droidlme was very impressed with the black levels and shadows and highlights displayed by the LG UltraWide 34WN80C. Yes! Delicious and comfortable on the eyes.
How about the detailed pictures? Regarding this, LG can be said to be “champion”. The image displayed is fairly detailed because the resolution is WQHD 3,440 x 1,440 pixels. The refresh rate is only 60Hz, and the response time is 5ms GTG. It is also still safe because the LG UltraWide 34WN80C is included in the multimedia monitor line.
It is still capable of playing single player offline games, especially those that support 21: 9. Actually, to display fast moving content, LG has provided Fast or Faster mode. But it is recommended to use Fast mode only, because if Faster sometimes likes screen tearing.
Have lots of Screen Split or Picture in Picture presets
As usual the OSD menu on this monitor can be accessed via the joystick at the bottom. Interestingly, we can download On Screen Control from the official LG website. This feature provides many Screen Split or Picture in Picture presets, which are suitable for super wide monitors like the LG UltraWide 34WN80C.
Another thing that is also liked about this monitor is the presence of the Black Stabilizer feature. This feature is very useful when we watch thriller or horror films, because dark areas can be more visible. Plus, the screen surface has an anti-glare coating, so it’s safer even if there are lots of light reflections because it can be more muted.
Because it has a super-wide size, reaching 34 inches, its power consumption is not small. If using standard mode, aka not displaying many colors, the power consumption is around 60 Watts. If used for playing games with high brightness, it can reach 140 Watts. The power adapter is also quite large.
